John Stivoric is President and Co-founder of Sandbox Technologies. Prior to starting
Sandbox, John was Senior Industrial Designer, founder, and co-leader of the award winning
Design Studio at Carnegie Mellon's Engineering Design Research Center (EDRC). Over
the last five years, he has lead numerous interdisciplinary teams in the development of
mobile and wearable computer systems for a variety of industrial, commercial, and
consumer applications John's client experience is composed from a variety of local,
national and international companies including Boeing, Daimler-Benz, Digital, Fore Systems,
Intel, the Robotics Institute, Visual Interface (Shape Photography), Virtual Vision and ARPA.
John's work has been recognized in numerous national and international publications.
He has co-authored over 25 papers on the topics of interdisciplinary design methodologies,
design research, interaction design, in-the-field user research, and integrated
electro-mechanical design and thermal management. John is also an Adjunct Faculty
member at the School of Design, where he has co-taught human-computer interaction,
industrial design, and design drawing. He has a MDes in interaction
design, with a concentration in integrated product development. John is an active
member of the Industrial Designers Society of America, the Human Factors and
Ergonomics Society, and the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon.
